معرفی
Dr. Joel Pearson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, and a Scientist at the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute CancerCare Manitoba. His research focuses on uncovering fundamental principles of cancer biology to improve treatment strategies, particularly targeting aggressive neural, neuroendocrine, and hematological cancers. He identifies novel therapeutic approaches by studying molecular mechanisms such as YAP/TAZ-TEAD signaling and cellular context influences on oncogenesis.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Biology, Thompson Rivers University (2005)
- Doctor of Philosophy in Immunology, University of Alberta (2013)
- Postdoctoral Fellow at Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (2013-2022)
Research Interests: Dr. Pearson’s work spans brain cancers, cancer genomics, drug resistance, functional genomics, and neuroendocrine/prostate/lung cancers. He emphasizes context-specific oncogenic pathways and has pioneered YAPOn/YAPOff cancer classifications to guide personalized therapies.
Awards:
- Canadian Cancer Society Emerging Scholar (2023-2028)
- CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship (2015-2018)
Advising & Grants: He is actively recruiting Master’s and PhD students. His research integrates in vitro and in vivo models to explore vulnerabilities in cancer cell cycles and signaling pathways. Collaborations emphasize translational approaches for clinical impact.
Labs/Teams: Based at the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute, Dr. Pearson leads a multidisciplinary team focused on cancer biology and therapeutic development, leveraging cross-appointments with the University of Manitoba.
