Joel Gagnier is an Associate Professor at Western University, affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. He holds appointments in both the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Department of Surgery. His research program focuses on clinical and methodological aspects of musculoskeletal conditions, evidence-based medicine, and surgical safety.

Dr. Gagnier’s research interests span clinical epidemiology, randomized controlled trial methods, systematic review methodologies, health measurement scales, and patient safety initiatives. He is actively involved in advancing perioperative pain control, bias analysis in patient-reported outcomes, and registry data analyses for orthopedic conditions. His work emphasizes multi-centered clinical research and surgical safety.
Scientific awards include competitive CIHR fellowships during his MSc, PhD, and postdoctoral training. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and delivered more than 200 lectures at conferences worldwide.
