Joe Morrissey is a Lecturer in English Literature at Coventry University's CAS School of Social Sciences & Humanities. He specializes in British Romanticism, focusing on women's writing and domesticity. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick (2013) and has held fellowships at Chawton House and the Institute of Advanced Studies. Prior to Coventry, he taught at the University of Manchester and the University of Leeds.
His research explores the intersection of gender, emotion, and domestic life in Romantic-period novels. Key works include his monograph Women's Domestic Activity in the Romantic-Period Novel, 1770-1820: Dangerous Occupations (2018) and articles analyzing Charlotte Smith’s Ethelinde and Maria Edgeworth’s Belinda. Current projects examine empathy as tied to domestic identity in Romantic-era fiction.
