Joe Langley

Dr Joe Langley is a Principal Research Fellow in Design Research at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the Department of Art and Design and the College of Social Sciences and Arts. His work focuses on applying design and co-design practices to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce inequalities, and enhance wellbeing. He holds honorary research roles at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and is a member of several national and international health innovation networks. Langley’s research emphasizes knowledge mobilisation, particularly in co-creating solutions for patient safety, oral health in care homes, and pediatric technologies. He leads interdisciplinary projects like the Learn Together programme and has collaborated with organizations globally. His recent publications explore co-design methodologies in healthcare investigations and interventions.

His academic background includes a PhD and MEng, and he has extensive experience in both domestic and international research partnerships. Langley’s work bridges creative practices with healthcare innovation, aiming to translate research into actionable outcomes. He supervises postgraduate students in design and health-related fields and contributes to initiatives like the TITCH Network and HealthTech Sheffield advisory group.
