Joe Barrett is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Brock University, specializing in the Department of Educational Studies. His work focuses on school health policy, health and physical education pedagogy, culturally responsive pedagogy, and problem-based learning. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in physical/health education curriculum, policy, and instruction.
Barrett has held leadership roles in professional organizations, including serving as Ontario representative on the PHE Canada Board of Directors (2013–2015), co-chair and chair of the PHE Canada Research Council (2010–2013), and co-chair of the PHE Canada National Research Forum (2017–2019). His research explores culturally responsive teaching practices, curriculum design, and health education policy.
Recent publications emphasize Indigenous perspectives in teacher training, physical literacy, and outdoor play pedagogy. He collaborates on projects addressing curriculum integration and professional development for educators.
