Joe Barber

Dr. Joe Barber is a Senior Lecturer in English at Manchester Metropolitan University's Faculty of Education, joining in 2015 after 14 years of secondary and post-16 English teaching in Great Manchester. He holds a BA (Hons) English, MA in English: Literature & Modernity, PGCE Secondary English, and a Doctor of Education (EdD). His research focuses on teacher development, literary theory in pedagogy, grammar instruction for student teachers, and behavior management. He has authored chapters in influential educational texts and edited a key behavior management guide for educators.

Professional memberships include the English Association (FE & Secondary Education Committee) and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Awards include the 2019 MMU Student Union 'Best Personal Tutor' Award and 2020 nominee for 'Best Employability Support'.

His research outputs emphasize practical applications of literary theory, generational learning needs, and early career teacher support. He has contributed to national educational policy through roles like membership on OCR’s National Consultative Forum for English Teaching.
