Dr. Jody Culham is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Immersive Neuroscience at Western University's Department of Psychology. She holds affiliations with the Centre for Brain and Mind and leads the CulhamARI Lab. Her research focuses on how vision guides perception and action in real-world contexts, leveraging neuroimaging and immersive technologies like virtual reality.
- Education: BSc (Honours) in Psychology (University of Calgary), PhD in Psychology (Harvard University), Postdoctoral Fellowship (Western University).
- Research: Investigates neural mechanisms underlying action, perception, and object manipulation using fMRI, VR, and behavioral methods. Recent work emphasizes realism in stimuli and naturalistic action studies.
- Awards: Davida Teller Award (2025), Canada Research Chair (Immersion Neuroscience).
- Grants: Major funding via BrainsCAN, NSERC, and collaborative international grants (e.g., CREATE-IRTG).
- Labs/Teams: CulhamARI Lab (affiliated with Brain and Mind Institute); collaborates with global networks (Germany, China).
Her lab has pioneered studies on tool use, size perception, and action representation, with recent emphasis on virtual environments. She has advised over 15 graduate students and postdocs, and her work appears in top journals like Journal of Neuroscience and Neuropsychologia.
