Professor Jodi Lindsay is a Professor of Microbial Pathogenesis at City St George's, University of London and serves as the Director of Cross Cutting Research Themes at the Infection and Immunity Research Institute. She is also Deputy to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) and Academic Lead for REF2021. Dr. Lindsay earned her PhD from the University of Western Australia, followed by post-doctoral positions at New York University Medical Center and the University of Sheffield. She joined St George's in 1998, receiving tenure in 2005 and achieving full professorship in 2012.
Her research focuses on:
- Evolution of bacterial populations and horizontal gene transfer
- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mechanisms in pathogens
- Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA epidemiology and evolution
- Bacteriophage transduction and restriction modification systems
- Genomic analysis of bacterial pathogenicity
She leads a research team investigating AMR gene acquisition and stability through approaches including experimental evolution, mathematical modeling, and whole-genome sequencing. Key discoveries include Staphylococcus aureus pathogenicity islands (SaPI), lineage-specific restriction-modification systems, and AMR transmission dynamics.
Current research funding includes support from MRC and JPI-AMR, with previous major grants from Wellcome Trust, EU FP7, BBSRC, and DEFRA.
Her research team includes Jake Wildfire, Alastair Clements, Max Wallat, and Amelia Williams-Walker. She collaborates internationally with institutions including London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Imperial College London, Royal Veterinary College, and Erasmus Medical Centre.
Dr. Lindsay teaches and supervises students in MRes Biomedical Science, BSc programs, and PhD candidates including MRC-LID students.
