Jochen René Thyrian

Prof. Jochen René Thyrian serves as Group Leader at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) in Greifswald, leading a research group established in November 2012 and permanently funded since September 2019 following a successful tenure track evaluation. His work integrates within DZNE's broader research strategy for clinical and healthcare research across multiple sites including Rostock/Greifswald and Witten.

His research agenda centers on developing population-impact interventions for dementia care and implementing them into routine healthcare systems. Key focus areas include timely dementia diagnosis, optimizing individual-level treatment in primary care, ensuring healthcare access and quality for vulnerable groups (e.g., migrants and frail individuals), and reducing caregiver burden through targeted support systems. The group employs interventional studies and implementation process analyses to address critical gaps in dementia care delivery.

Thyrian's team actively collaborates with DZNE sites to translate research findings into standard care practices, emphasizing the needs of patients, families, care systems, and societal dementia strategies through a holistic research framework.
