Jochen Ecke is a Lecturer in English Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, based in the Department of English and Linguistics. His primary research interests include comic books (PhD, 2013), film history, Romanticism, the Gothic, and its transformation into Weird Tales. Methodologically, he focuses on literary form, multimodality, media literacy, and cognitive approaches to literary studies. He serves as the study advisor for international students, including Erasmus students, and teaches courses on academic writing, film history (e.g., 'The British New Wave of the 1960s' and 'British Noir'), Gothic/Romanticism, comic books, and serial storytelling.
Dr. Ecke holds a PhD from 2013, though the awarding institution is unspecified. He is on parental leave during the summer semester of 2025 (April–October), during which he will only handle inquiries from international students and will not supervise theses.
