Rainer Emig

Rainer Emig is a Professor of English Literature and Culture at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. He joined the university in 2015 after holding professorships at Regensburg and Hanover, and a lectureship at Cardiff University in Wales. His research spans from 19th-century literature to contemporary works, with interdisciplinary engagement in Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and popular culture.

• Education:
  • Studied at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, University of Warwick, and University of Oxford (D.Phil. in 1992).
  • Habilitation at University of Siegen in 1998 (Postdoc in local graduate school).
• Research Focus:
  • Modernism, poetry, cultural representations of war and terrorism.
  • Interdisciplinary analysis of masculinity, national stereotypes, humor, and eccentricity.
• Teaching:
  • Offers advanced BA and MA courses in British Cultural Studies, including Methods and Theories of Cultural Studies, Wales, and Global Britain.
