A specialist in phenomenological sociology, Dreher has made significant contributions to understanding power dynamics, identity construction, symbolic systems, and the social constitution of reality through his extensive publications and international collaborations.
Dreher's scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersection of phenomenology and sociology, particularly examining how symbolic systems shape social reality, power relations, and identity formation. His work bridges theoretical sociological frameworks with empirical research, often drawing on comparative cultural analyses. The majority of his publications engage with Alfred Schütz's phenomenological sociology while extending these concepts to contemporary social issues including organizational culture, migration, and globalization.
His academic career has been marked by extensive international collaboration, particularly with Latin American institutions, reflecting his research interest in pluralistic societies and cultural symbolism as demonstrated in his work on Argentine identity construction through gaucho mythology, tango, and psychoanalysis.
