Jocelyn Thorpe is a Professor cross-appointed between History and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Arts, where she also directs the Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture. A settler scholar who joined UM in 2012, her research examines environmental justice, colonial legacies, and anti-racist feminist frameworks. She holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from York University (2008), MA from University of Toronto (2003), and BA from University of Toronto (2001).

- Environmental injustice in Canadian historical contexts
- Decolonization methodologies
- Intersections of race, gender and environment
- Creative writing as social justice praxis
Publications demonstrate sustained engagement with Indigenous sovereignty and decolonial narratives, employing interdisciplinary approaches bridging history, film studies, and feminist theory. Recent work examines Indigenous women's knowledge transmission through film and pandemic-era social change strategies.
Honors include:

Thorpe co-curates the Decolonizing Lens Film and Discussion Series with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and Winnipeg Art Gallery. She mentors emerging scholars through the Writing Toward a Just World Research Cluster and serves as basketball coach at Valour Community Centre.
