Jocelyn Maclure is a Professor & Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair in Human Nature and Technology at McGill University's Department of Philosophy (Faculty of Arts). He previously taught at Laval University for 17 years before joining McGill in 2021. His research focuses on ethics, political philosophy, and the philosophy of artificial intelligence, with notable contributions to secularism debates and end-of-life ethics.
Education: B.A. (Laval University), M.A. (University of Victoria), DPhil (University of Southampton). He co-authored Secularism and Freedom of Conscience (2011), translated into 9 languages, and contributed to the Montreal Declaration for Responsible AI (2018).
Public roles include serving as an expert for Quebec's Bouchard-Taylor Commission on religious accommodations, chairing expert groups on medical assistance in dying, and leading the Quebec Ethics in Science and Technology Commission. His work bridges academic philosophy with public policy, addressing issues like AI ethics, vaccine passports, and conscientious objection in healthcare.
