Joaquim Trullàs Simó

Joaquim Trullàs Simó is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), affiliated with the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB). With over 100 research activities spanning more than three decades, he has established himself as a leading researcher in condensed matter physics and molecular simulation, maintaining active research output through 2022.

His research focuses on condensed matter physics, particularly the structural and dynamic properties of molten salts and ionic liquids. Trullàs employs molecular dynamics simulations to investigate polarization effects, transport properties, and structural characteristics of various condensed systems. His work bridges theoretical physics with practical applications in materials science, with particular expertise in polarizable ion models for ionic systems.

Trullàs has published extensively in top physics journals including the Journal of Chemical Physics and Physical Review B. His research demonstrates a consistent focus on understanding fundamental properties of molten salts through computational approaches, with recent work emphasizing polarizable ion models and their applications to silver and copper halides.

He has supervised multiple doctoral students, including Bitrián, V., and has secured 20 competitive research projects funded by Spanish national programs and the Catalan government. His collaborative network spans across Spain with 34 collaborations with Alcaraz Sendra, Olga, 30 with Giro Roca, Antoni, and significant work with Bitrian Varea, Vicente.

Trullàs is a key member of the CCQM (Condensed, Complex and Quantum Matter Group) at UPC, where he contributes to advancing computational methods in condensed matter physics. His work continues to influence the field of molecular simulation of ionic systems with applications in battery materials and ionic conductors.
