Joao Goebel serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Master of Science in Education program at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy (SESP). Concurrently, he holds the roles of Assistant Professor and Chair of ESL/Bilingual Education at National Louis University. His professional journey began in Brazil, where he taught ESL across K-12 public schools before transitioning to early childhood education in the U.S.
- Education: Currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Reading, Language, and Literacy (in progress). Holds an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University, 2019) and an M.Ed. in ESL/Bilingual Education from National Louis University (2017).
His research focuses on Latinx students’ language identity, advocating for translanguaging practices and equitable language education policies. He emphasizes creating inclusive educational spaces that honor linguistic diversity, particularly for Latinx communities. With over 15 years of experience spanning preschool teaching, program coordination, and higher education, Goebel combines practical expertise with academic leadership.
