Joao Antonangelo is an Assistant Professor of Applied Soil Chemistry at Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, WA. Previously, he held the same position at Austin Peay State University. He earned his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering (UNESP, Brazil), M.S. in Soils and Plant Nutrition (University of Sao Paulo), and Ph.D. in Soil Science (Oklahoma State University). His research focuses on soil organic matter dynamics, soil carbon sequestration, biochar applications, and sustainable nutrient management. He teaches undergraduate courses in Soil Chemistry and related subjects.
Research interests include soil carbon sequestration mechanisms, biochar effects on soil health, soil acidification mitigation, and heavy metal remediation. He is affiliated with the Soil Science Society of America and serves on WSU's Dryland Cropping Systems Team and DEI Committee. His work integrates innovative technologies for precision agriculture, such as portable XRF sensors for rapid nutrient analysis, and explores sustainable fertilization practices to enhance crop productivity while protecting environmental health.
Publications highlight advancements in biochar-amended soils, portable XRF applications, and phosphorus dynamics in tropical soils. Collaborations span institutions in Brazil, the U.S., and globally, addressing challenges in soil fertility, environmental remediation, and sustainable agricultural systems.
