Surendra Singh

Surendra Singh is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Lind Dryland Research Station at Washington State University (WSU), affiliated with the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). His work focuses on sustainable soil management, soil health assessment, and dryland cropping systems in the Pacific Northwest.

Education:

• PhD in Soil Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2017–2020)
• M.S. in Agriculture Regulation, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (2015–2016)
• B.Sc. (Honors) in Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University, India (2010–2014)

Research Interests: Dr. Singh investigates soil carbon dynamics, cover crop impacts, biosolids application, and long-term agro-management effects on soil health. He evaluates soil health indices and their applicability in diverse farming systems, with a focus on improving dryland wheat systems and mitigating climate change impacts. His work integrates field trials, microbial community analysis, and predictive modeling to guide sustainable agricultural practices.

Outreach & Grants: He leads the Resilient Dryland Farming Alliance (RDFA), exploring cover crops and alternative crops to enhance soil resilience. His collaborations include studies on weed suppression, nutrient stratification, and crop residue management. He actively engages in extension programs to disseminate findings to farmers and policymakers.

Labs/Teams: Directs the Lind Dryland Research Station, a hub for dryland agriculture research. Collaborates with WSU’s Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Oregon State University’s agricultural programs, and international institutions on soil health and sustainable practices.
