Dr. Joanne Moyer is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Geography and Director of the Environmental Studies Program at The King’s University. Her work focuses on the intersections of faith, environmental sustainability, and transformative learning. She holds a PhD in Natural Resource and Environmental Management from the University of Manitoba (2013), an M.Env. from Dalhousie University (2006), and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Winnipeg (2003). Her research explores how faith communities engage in environmental work, particularly in Canada and Kenya, emphasizing socio-ecological relationships and community-based initiatives.
Her academic contributions include over a dozen peer-reviewed articles on faith-based environmental engagement, sustainability education, and transformative learning. She has presented widely at conferences and community events, including workshops at the Mennonite World Conference Assembly (2022) and the Christian Reformed Church Day of Encouragement (2016). Her leadership roles include membership in the Mennonite Church Canada Sustainability Leadership Group and past service on the Mennonite Creation Care Network council.
Dr. Moyer’s community involvement includes advocacy for sustainable practices such as cycling, community gardening, and public transit use. She teaches courses on sustainability, global interconnectedness, and natural resource management, emphasizing actionable citizenship and ethical stewardship.
