Eileen Moyer is a Professor in the Programme group 'Moving Matters: People, Goods, Power and Ideas' at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, University of Amsterdam. Her research explores medical anthropology with emphasis on HIV interventions, gender dynamics, urban health inequities, and African social contexts.
Moyer's work examines the intersection of health policy and lived experience, particularly in East and Southern Africa. Her research investigates how global health initiatives impact local communities, the social construction of masculinity, and the lived experiences of marginalized populations including sex workers and LGBTQ+ communities.
Her publications consistently address themes of health access, social inequality, and the implementation of health interventions in resource-limited settings. Recent research focuses on HIV disclosure dynamics, food insecurity, and environmental health challenges like plastic pollution.
Moyer employs diverse qualitative methodologies including ethnography, narrative analysis, and community-based participatory research. Her work contributes to theoretical and practical understandings of structural violence, social resilience, and the politics of health interventions.
