Ann E. Moyer is a Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences, specializing in Renaissance Europe's intellectual and cultural history, with a focus on 16th-century Italy. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, alongside an A.M. and B.A. from Michigan State University. Her research explores intersections between arts, sciences, and cultural identity in Renaissance Italy, including seminal works on music theory, mathematical games like Rithmomachia, and Florentine humanism.
Moyer served as Executive Director of the Renaissance Society of America (2010–2015) and is an Executive Editor of the Journal of the History of Ideas. Her teaching spans foundational courses in European history and specialized topics like 'Science and Culture in the West' and 'Renaissance Europe.' She has pioneered interdisciplinary research on how Renaissance thinkers bridged arts and sciences, reshaping modern academic divides.
Her publications blend rigorous scholarship with accessible narratives, including analyses of forgotten intellectual games and the cultural politics of Florentine humanism.
