Joanne Davies serves as Associate Professor and Head of Swansea University's Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre (SUSIM), which she has directed since 2021. She holds a prominent position within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science at Swansea University, where she designs and implements cutting-edge simulation-based educational programs.
Her research interests focus primarily on Simulation-Based Education (SBE), Immersive Learning technologies, Human Factors in healthcare, and Team Performance Training. Dr. Davies specializes in faculty development for SBE and debriefing techniques, interprofessional learning, leadership training, and curriculum design with an emphasis on education technology innovation. Her work also extends to Women's Health and Midwifery education.
Her recent publication trends demonstrate a strong focus on using simulation to address healthcare communication challenges, particularly for underserved patient populations such as deaf and hard of hearing patients. Her work combines educational theory with practical healthcare applications to improve patient outcomes through better clinician training.
Dr. Davies actively supervises postgraduate students and has secured significant research funding, including over £1.4 million in Simulation and Immersive Learning research grants between 2022-2024. She collaborates extensively with Health Boards, Sports organizations, and Industry partners to expand SUSIM's educational impact.
She leads the SUSIM Faculty Development Programs and works on national initiatives including the All Wales Immersive Learning Committee and the All-Wales Virtual Hospital programme. Dr. Davies has presented her international work in Simulation-Based Education to the UK government and maintains active collaborations across the UK, Europe, MENA, USA, and Asia.
