Joanne Clement is a Lecturer in the Humanities Department at Northumbria University. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Newcastle University (2019), focusing on ekphrastic practices in Thomas Bewick’s works. Her research bridges Creative Writing, Cultural Heritage, and Postcolonial Studies, with a focus on Traveller ethnicity and marginalized representations.
Recent activities include invited talks on museum collections and heritage (2022-2023), including discussions on Thomas Bewick’s archives and Traveller narratives. She co-edited Thresholds: Poems by South Asian women in North East England (2024) and reviewed Danez Smith’s work for the Poetry Book Society.
Award highlights include the Butcher's Dog Poetry Magazine of the Year (2022, 2023), ERIAC Innovation Award (2020), and a shortlist in the John Pollard Poetry Prize (2023). Her creative works explore identity through lyric essays and ekphrastic poetry, blending autoethnography with visual analysis.
