Joanne Carruthers

Joanne Carruthers is a Principal Lecturer and Head of Allied Health at the University of Wolverhampton's Faculty of Education, Health & Wellbeing, based at the Walsall Campus. She serves as academic leader for the School of Allied Health and Midwifery with responsibility for Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Podiatry programs.

Her clinical expertise spans adult mental health across diverse conditions, with extensive experience working in old age psychiatry, eating disorders units, and with individuals with learning disabilities. She also has physical healthcare experience from day hospitals and community-based intermediate care teams within the UK health service.

Dr. Carruthers has substantial educational leadership experience, having previously taught at the University of Derby, Coventry University, and Staffordshire University before joining Wolverhampton in 2020. At Wolverhampton, she developed new occupational therapy degree and apprenticeship programs, focusing on quality assurance and professional validation.
