Gemma Wells

Gemma Wells serves as a Senior Lecturer and Professional Lead in Occupational Therapy within the Department of Allied Health Professions and Dental Practice at the University of Kent. In her leadership capacity, she ensures program compliance with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) standards, enabling graduate eligibility for professional registration and practice as Occupational Therapists.

Her research and teaching expertise focuses on innovative educational methodologies in Occupational Therapy, emphasizing compassionate and practice-ready curriculum development. With over 15 years in higher education since transitioning from clinical practice in 2007, she has advanced from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer (2008), demonstrating sustained leadership in accreditation processes and program quality assurance across both BSc and MSc Occupational Therapy degrees.

As a Research Supervisor, Dr. Wells mentors students in academic and clinical research projects while maintaining collaborative relationships with healthcare organizations. Her work centers on maintaining program relevance through continuous alignment with evolving professional standards and healthcare sector demands, housed at the Hepworth building (Hf17) on Canterbury campus.
