Joanne Barrow is a Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Northampton, affiliated with the Childhood, Youth and Families Centre for Education and Research. She holds a Master's in Literacy and Learning from Canterbury Christ Church University (2010), a Bachelor's in BAEd (QTS) with Art from the University of Reading (2003), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Doctorate at the University of Reading.
Her research focuses on Education (General), Primary Education, Teacher Education, Emotional Labor in Education, and the Future of Education. Key interests include well-being of educational leaders, qualitative studies on teacher education, and play-based learning strategies in early years and Key Stage 1.
Recent research highlights include exploring emotional labor's impact on senior leaders' well-being and analyzing international qualitative research in teacher education. Her earlier work addressed drama's role in primary education and role-play in early literacy development.
Joanne has contributed to conferences, such as presenting on Virtual Reality in education (2025) and served on advisory panels like Northampton Town FC engagement initiatives (2024).
She is part of the Childhood, Youth and Families Centre, emphasizing collaborative research on educational challenges and innovations.
