Joanna S Morris is a Professor of Veterinary Oncology in the Small Animal Clinical Sciences department at the University of Glasgow. She maintains an active research program in comparative cancer biology with a particular focus on mammary gland development and cancer.
Her research interests span mammary gland biology and cancer, gene expression during development (puberty, pregnancy, lactation), tissue invasion mechanisms, stromal remodeling in cancer, and the role of Runx genes in mammary development. She also investigates serum biomarkers for tumor detection and monitoring, including acute phase proteins like C-reactive protein in lymphoid neoplasia, the Glasgow Prognostic Score, inflammatory cell ratios in sarcomas and mast cell tumors, and cell-free DNA analysis.
Professor Morris has published extensively on veterinary oncology topics, with recent work focusing on comparative aspects of cancer biology between humans and dogs. Her publications demonstrate strong expertise in biomarker development, cancer diagnostics, and translational approaches to oncology.
Her scientific contributions include numerous collaborative studies with researchers such as Barry Gusterson, Torsten Stein, Karen Blyth, and Ewan Cameron, highlighting her interdisciplinary approach to cancer research.
