Joanna G’froerer is a Course Instructor in Flute at the Schulich School of Music, Department of Music Performance at McGill University. She is also affiliated with the University of Ottawa. As principal flute of the National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra since 1992, she performs extensively as a soloist and chamber musician across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
- Education: Studied flute with Kathleen Rudolph in Vancouver and Timothy Hutchins at McGill University
Her research and performance interests focus on classical and contemporary flute techniques, chamber music collaborations, and orchestral pedagogy. She has recorded works by Mozart, Rodrigo, and Saint-Saens, contributing to the preservation of woodwind chamber music repertoire.
Joanna has taught at prestigious institutions such as the NAC Summer Music Institute, Domaine Forget, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. She has been featured in chamber music festivals across Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Brazil’s Campos do Jordao Festival, and the Scotia Festival.
Scientific Awards:
- Winner of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition
She is a Wm. S. Haynes Artist, performing on a custom 19.5K gold Haynes flute with a lightweight silver mechanism.
