Joanna Brooks is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Mental Health at the University of Manchester. A Chartered Psychologist and committee member of the British Psychological Society's Qualitative Methods in Psychology Section, her research examines patient and provider experiences in healthcare settings using qualitative methodologies.
Research investigates communication dynamics, collaborative working, and lived experiences of chronic/palliative conditions. Specific interests include treatment acceptability, health promotion interventions, and cross-setting care coordination. Brooks co-developed the Template Analysis qualitative framework and Pictor visual elicitation tool.
Teaches qualitative methods and supervises postgraduate projects in clinical psychology. Current collaborations focus on digital health interventions for diabetes management and equity-focused tools for end-of-life carer support.
