Joanna Bowden is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Population and Behavioural Science Division at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews. Her research focuses on advanced multimorbidity, palliative care, healthcare economics, and cancer care planning. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. Her work spans clinical, policy, and methodological domains, with a particular emphasis on improving care for patients with chronic conditions.
Education:
Joanna completed her doctoral thesis (Nutritional, inflammatory and functional biomarkers in lung cancer...) in July 2020 under the supervision of Prof. G. M. Humphris and Prof. D. J. Williams.
Research Interests:
Her expertise includes defining advanced multimorbidity, optimizing care planning in oncology, and evaluating economic impacts of palliative interventions. She employs scoping reviews, systematic methodologies, and randomized trials to advance healthcare practices.

Her work involves interdisciplinary teams and international collaborations, evident in co-authored studies on chronic conditions and end-of-life care.
