Joana Teixeira

Joana Teixeira is an Assistant Professor at the School of Arts, Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), where she coordinates the Master’s program in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. She is also an active researcher at CITAR (Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts), contributing to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of art, technology, and heritage preservation. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Pictorial Heritage from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and prior studies at Escola Superior Artística do Porto.

Her research focuses on the conservation of contemporary art, with an emphasis on documentation processes, materiality, and the relationship between theoretical reflection and practical conservation. She has held external academic roles at Portucalense University Infante D. Henrique (2010–2015) and the University of Porto (since 2012), demonstrating her national engagement in art conservation education.

Her recent publications and conference contributions highlight her expertise in case studies of significant artworks, such as "Radiologias" by Silvestre Pestana and "Flor Negra" by Cabrita. These works explore challenges in technological obsolescence, vertical deformation treatment using magnetic sheets, and the indispensability of documentation. Her research output spans journals like Artnodes, Ge-conservación, and Periódico Permanente, reflecting a consistent focus on documentation, materiality, and chromatic properties in contemporary art.

Joana is actively involved in research projects including CITAR and HAC4CG (Heritage Art, Creation for Climate Change), which integrate conservation with climate action and digital innovation. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education and cultural preservation.
