Nuno Camarneiro is an Invited Assistant Professor at the School of Arts and a researcher at the Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR) at the University of Porto. He holds a PhD in Material Science from the University of Florence (2010) and a Bachelor's in Physics Engineering from the University of Coimbra (2003). His work focuses on analytical methodologies for art conservation, including Raman spectroscopy and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), applied to cultural heritage preservation.
Key research areas include material characterization of artworks, non-invasive testing techniques, and interdisciplinary approaches to art science. He has led projects such as HAC4CG (Climate Change and Cultural Heritage) and contributed to the CITAR research center. His recent publications address topics like 17th-century polychrome sculpture conservation and Porto's urban cultural dynamics.
Camarneiro has supervised graduate projects on relic restoration and ink stabilization, and he advises on heritage conservation projects. He collaborates internationally, with past roles including postdoctoral research at the University of Florence and a Marie Curie Scholarship at CERN.
