Joan Y. Reede, MD, MS, MPH, MBA serves as Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School (HMS), appointed in 2002. She holds dual professorships as Professor of Medicine at HMS and Professor of Society, Human Development, and Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, plus an Assistant in Health Policy role at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her leadership spans faculty development, community outreach, and national diversity initiatives in academic medicine.

Dr. Reede’s work centers on dismantling systemic barriers in medicine through diversity pipeline development. She pioneered over 20 programs addressing racial disparities—from middle school science curricula to physician scientist fellowships—focusing on sustainable interventions in academic medicine and public health systems.

Her community health background as former medical director of a Boston community health center and Massachusetts Department of Youth Services informs her population health approach.
