Joan E. Furey is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Communication Sciences & Disorders at the College of Wooster. She holds a PhD from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an MA from University of Pittsburgh, and an AB from University of Chicago.
Her research examines early phonological/lexical development and socioeconomic impacts on speech-language acquisition. She teaches courses including Phonetic Transcription, Language Development, and Language Disorders in Children.
Awards include the ASHA Advancing Academic and Research Careers Award Fellowship (2004-2005). Professional credentials include ASHA clinical certification and Ohio speech-language pathology licensure.
