Joan Danielle Ongchoco serves as an Assistant Professor in the Cognitive Science area at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and directs the UBC Perception & Cognition Lab. Previously, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin under Martin Rolfs and earned her PhD from Yale University with Brian Scholl as primary advisor, supported by a committee including Marvin Chun, Julian Jara-Ettinger, Phil Corlett, and L.A. Paul.
Her academic foundation includes:
- PhD in Cognitive Science from Yale University
- Undergraduate studies in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Yale-NUS College (Singapore's inaugural class)
Dr. Ongchoco's research centers on perceptual and cognitive mechanisms, specializing in visual perception and attentional processes. Her work integrates experimental methodologies to investigate how sensory input translates into cognitive representations, with emphasis on eye movement dynamics and neural underpinnings of visual processing. The UBC Perception & Cognition Lab serves as the primary hub for these investigations.
While specific advising records and grant details remain unspecified in available sources, her laboratory actively advances experimental research in human perception. Dr. Ongchoco's interdisciplinary background bridges philosophical inquiry with empirical cognitive science, reflecting her unique training trajectory from Yale-NUS College to Yale's doctoral program.
