Joan Baker serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Theatre Department at The Hartt School, University of Hartford, where she pioneered the institution's inaugural voice acting curriculum in late 2022. She is also Co-founder, Chief Creative Officer, and Secretary of the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences™ (SOVAS™), leading initiatives including the That’s Voiceover!™ Career Expo and Voice Arts® Awards.
Her expertise centers on voice acting pedagogy and industry practice, documented in her book "Secrets of Voice-Over Success" which chronicles 21 top voice actors' careers. She actively bridges academic training with professional voiceover performance through workshops and advocacy.

Through SOVAS, she provides scholarships, career counseling, and training for aspiring voice actors. As SOVAS co-founder, she cultivates global voice arts community development through award programs and events emphasizing diversity, notably co-hosting Cannes Lions 2022's "Representation Behind the Mic" panel and serving as Emmy juror since 2022.
