Jo Lay is the Associate Director of Student Education (Quality) in the School of Healthcare at the University of Leeds. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Learning Disabilities Nursing, an MA in Social Research, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (PGCLTHE). Her professional roles include facilitating the Positive Choices student network in learning disability nursing and chairing the Learning/Intellectual Disability Nursing Academic Network (LIDNAN). She also serves as a panellist on Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Fitness to Practice hearings.
Her career spans NHS and voluntary sector roles in learning disability services across Hampshire, Oxfordshire, and Leeds. As a lecturer in nursing, she focuses on integrating learning disability care into curricula. Key achievements include a 2012 University Student Education Fellowship. Her expertise lies in nursing education, healthcare quality assurance, and advocacy for intellectual disability care.
Research interests include curriculum development, social research methodologies, and improving educational standards in nursing. She actively contributes to academic networks and regulatory panels, ensuring ethical and professional standards in healthcare practice.
