Jo Hawkes is Deputy Head of School in the School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Plymouth. She brings 13 years of primary-school teaching experience to her university role, having taught every year group from 1 to 6 and led large-scale curriculum reforms as a Department for Education Specialist Leader in Education and Computing at School Master Teacher. At Plymouth she co-leads the innovative two-year Fast-Track BA Primary Education programme.

Her scholarly focus lies in translating primary-classroom expertise into teacher-education practice, emphasising creative, literature-rich methods that improve pupil engagement and attainment.
