Dr. Jo Hare serves as a Senior Lecturer in Service & Product Design within the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, with 20 years of combined industry and academic experience spanning medical devices, consumer products, and financial services.

Research Focus: Specializing in Human-Centred Design, Dr. Hare concentrates on early-stage project identification and user needs analysis through tangible prototyping and creative problem-solving. Her work integrates Design Thinking methodologies to address complex challenges in Service Design, Product Design, and Design Research Methods, with applications across healthcare, consumer goods, and banking sectors. She emphasizes making innovations user-centric while bridging theoretical frameworks with practical implementation.
Academic Leadership: As Programme Leader for BA Product Design and Module Leader for human-centred design courses, she directs curricula focused on design process and live industry projects. Her research council-funded DEPtH (Designing for Physicality) project produced the co-authored book 'Touch IT' with Swansea and Cardiff Metropolitan University professors, alongside 15 publications and conference review panel contributions.
Professional Trajectory: Prior to UWE, she served as Senior User-Centred Designer at PDR (International Centre for Design and Research), developing medical devices, baby products, kitchen appliances, and banking solutions through user-focused innovation frameworks.
