Jiyong Lee is a Professor and Head of the Glass Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU), where he has served since 2005. He holds an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology (2001) and previously taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor there. His leadership includes a six-year tenure on the Board of Directors for the Glass Art Society (2009–2015).
Lee’s research focuses on sculptural glass, cold-working, and material innovation, informed by dual cultural perspectives from his education in Korea and the U.S. His work has been exhibited globally, including at the Corning Museum of Glass, Museum of Glass Tacoma, and Cheongju International Craft Biennale. He has lectured and demonstrated techniques at institutions like Pilchuck Glass School, Corning Museum’s Studio, and universities in Australia, France, and Korea.
Award-winning artist, Lee has received the Glass Art Society’s Emerging Artist Award and Pilchuck’s Saxe Award. His pieces are featured in collections like the Corning Museum of Glass. He emphasizes cross-cultural pedagogy to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
