Jitesh Gajjar

Prof. Jitesh Gajjar is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Manchester since 2007, leading the School of Mathematics' Social Responsibility initiatives since 2016. His career includes roles from Lecturer (1985) to Reader (2001–2007), with prior experience at the University of Exeter and B.M.T. Ltd. His research focuses on fluid dynamics, hydrodynamic stability, and computational methods, with a strong emphasis on boundary layer flows, compressible/incompressible flows, and numerical solutions of Navier-Stokes equations.

Research interests span high-speed flows, triple-deck theory, laminar separation, and asymptotic methods. He has authored/co-authored influential textbooks like Fluid Dynamics Part 4: Hydrodynamic Stability Theory and contributed to over 60 publications. Supervised 19 PhD students, emphasizing theoretical and computational fluid mechanics. Active in professional bodies like the Royal Society of Arts as a Fellow.

Key projects include exploring Tollmien-Schlichting wave cancellation via localized heating, supersonic compression-ramp instabilities, and global stability of separated flows. His work combines analytical techniques with numerical simulations, addressing industrial and fundamental fluid dynamics challenges. Recent studies (2020–2024) focus on nanofluids in cavity flows, temperature-dependent viscosity effects, and high-frequency instabilities in supersonic flows.

Awards include Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). Academic leadership roles include contributing to anti-racism governance in higher education and directing interdisciplinary initiatives through the University of Manchester Applied Research Innovation (UMARI) Institute.
