Dr. Jing Lu is a Senior Lecturer in Data Analytics at the University of Winchester Business School since 2016. Previously, she held an Associate Professor position at Solent University and worked in China. She earned her PhD in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Bedfordshire (2006) and became a Fellow of the HE Academy in 2009. Her research focuses on business analytics, data mining, and applied data science, emphasizing data-driven frameworks, process methodology, and visualization in business contexts.
Her work spans over 30 peer-reviewed publications, addressing topics like customer analytics in SMEs, health informatics, and curriculum development informed by data analytics. Recent research includes studies on data scientist skill evaluation, business intelligence architectures, and clinical data preprocessing for analytics. She actively collaborates with healthcare institutions and organizations such as University Hospital Southampton and the Merchant Navy Welfare Board through funded projects.
Dr. Lu teaches across programs including BSc Data Science (Apprenticeship), MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics, and the Executive MBA. She integrates her research into teaching through project supervision and curriculum design, emphasizing practical applications of data science in business environments. Her professional memberships include the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
Notable grants include the 2015-16 Solent Health Informatics Partnership and the KTP project on Seafarers Welfare Information Management System. Her research bridges academic inquiry with real-world challenges in healthcare, education, and digital technologies, fostering interdisciplinary innovation.
