Jing Chen is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the School of Business, Stevens Institute of Technology, where she has served since 2019, being promoted to Associate Professor in 2024. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the School of Management, University at Buffalo, SUNY from 2014 to 2019. Her academic journey began with a BBA in Accounting from Renmin University of China in 2009, followed by a PhD in Accounting from New York University in 2014.
Dr. Chen completed her doctoral studies at NYU with multiple fellowships including the Marcus Nadler Fellowship (2013-2014) and Doctoral Fellowship (2009-2013). She has received numerous awards at Stevens Institute including the Photios T. Paulson '59 Fellowship (2022-2024), Jack Howe Fellowship (2019-2022), and Vice Provost's Recognition of Teaching Excellence (2020).
Her research focuses on corporate disclosures, media, financial analysts, supplier-customer relationships, and textual analysis. Dr. Chen has established herself as a significant contributor to accounting literature with publications in top journals including The Accounting Review, Management Science, and Journal of Business Ethics. Her work often examines how timing, disclosure practices, and market relationships affect financial reporting and decision-making.
Analysis of her publication history reveals a consistent focus on disclosure quality and market reactions, with increasing attention to emerging issues like cybersecurity risk disclosure. Her research combines traditional accounting methodologies with innovative approaches including textual analysis of conference calls and examination of temporal patterns in financial reporting.

Dr. Chen actively mentors graduate students, currently advising PhD candidate Xi Jiang. Her service extends to numerous committees at Stevens including the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees, Research and Entrepreneurship Committee, and multiple curriculum and faculty search committees. She also serves as Course Coordinator for key accounting courses including ACC 510/FIN 510 Financial Statement Analysis.
