Violet Chen is an Assistant Professor of Analytics and Information Systems at Stevens Institute of Technology's School of Business. Her research integrates fairness modeling, ethical AI, and social welfare optimization with applications in healthcare, infrastructure systems, and supply chain management.
Research focuses on developing mathematical frameworks for equitable decision-making in AI systems, including outcome-centric social welfare perspectives of machine learning and human-centric modeling of moral preferences. Current projects examine healthcare algorithm fairness, ethical allocation mechanisms, and bias mitigation in predictive models.
Recent publications establish theoretical foundations for equity formulations in optimization models and develop practical methods for assessing group fairness through social welfare optimization. Her work bridges philosophical principles of justice with computational implementation in algorithmic systems.
