Jin Zhao

Prof. Jin Zhao is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School. His research focuses on first-principles calculations of excited carrier dynamics in condensed matter systems, with expertise in ultrafast electron dynamics and interfacial phenomena. He developed the Hefei-NAMD computational package, integrating advanced methods like time-dependent density functional theory and surface hopping techniques to study multiscale electronic behaviors in real and momentum spaces.

Research interests include solvated electrons at water-metal oxide interfaces, alkali adsorption on noble metal surfaces, and electronic properties of fullerenes. His work bridges theoretical and experimental approaches to understand energy transfer mechanisms at nanoscale interfaces.

He holds the M.T. Thomas Award for Outstanding Postdoctoral Achievement (2007) and has published extensively in top journals like Science, Phys. Rev. Lett., and Chemical Reviews. His research group emphasizes computational methods to explore novel phenomena in nanomaterials and surface science.
