Dr. Jimmy O'Keeffe is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Systems at Dublin City University’s School of History and Geography. He leads the EPA-funded FARM-NC project and Research Ireland-funded VNiC-Health project, collaborating with Trinity College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. His research focuses on natural capital, ecosystem services, and systems modeling to address human-environment interactions. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London (2016) and has extensive experience in global water management and stakeholder engagement.
Teaching includes modules on Spatial Analysis, Environmental Systems, Hydrology, and Advanced Environmental Geography. Research projects emphasize sustainable urban planning, water security, and resilience in developing regions. He has worked on projects funded by NERC, the Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences, and developed the WISA network to connect researchers across regions.
His work integrates field insights with modeling tools to address challenges in water management, particularly in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Recent publications explore socio-environmental impacts of hydropower, blue-green spaces’ health benefits, and systems frameworks for sustainability.
Grants include EPA and Research Ireland funding. Advising focuses on environmental sustainability and participatory decision-making. Collaborations span universities, NGOs, and policy bodies to enhance environmental resilience and community well-being.
