Jim Tolisano

Jim Tolisano is a Part-time Lecturer at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study and serves on the Advisory Team for the Center for Sustainable Business at NYU Stern School of Business. As Principal of Cresta Coastal Network, he leverages over 30 years of international experience implementing conservation and climate adaptation projects across 50+ countries.

His educational background includes:

Tolisano's research explores the critical intersection of conservation science, ecological anthropology, and sustainable finance, examining how cultural narratives and social structures shape human relationships with nature. His work emphasizes storytelling as a transformative tool for biodiversity preservation and advocates for community-centered approaches that integrate business acumen with ecological stewardship, particularly in vulnerable coastal and river basin ecosystems.

His recent publications analyze paradigm shifts in conservation during global crises, highlighting how debt-for-nature conversions and community-led initiatives redefine traditional conservation models through sustainable finance mechanisms and cross-cultural collaboration.

• Debt-for-nature conversions for Barbados (2022-2024) and The Bahamas (2023-present)
• Tri-national conservation trust development for the Okavango River Basin (Angola-Namibia-Botswana)
• Coral ecosystem preservation in Egypt's Red Sea
