Dr Stuart Oliver is a Senior Lecturer at St Mary's University specializing in cultural geography and political ecology. He joined the institution in 1992 after prior roles as a journalist, visiting lecturer, and researcher for the Municipality of Grassano, Italy. His teaching focuses on cultural geography of nature, contributing to Politics and International Business Management programs.
Oliver holds an MPhil (Econ) from the University of London and a PhD from the University of Surrey. His research examines the political ecology of nature through case studies like the Basilicata region's landslides and Thames River management. Notable publications include Land Abandoned to the Sea (2021), exploring coastal sustainability, and articles on Thames embankments and medieval river navigation.
