Jim Stafford is an Assistant Professor in the Writing Department at Ithaca College since 2008. His work bridges Professional Writing Studies, Composition, and Rhetoric, with a focus on Emotional Intelligence, Collaborative Learning, and Multi-modal Composition. He has held leadership roles, including directing the Ithaca College Writing Center (2012–2014) and the Handworker Gallery Reading Series (2010–2014).

His research explores how writing practices intersect with emotional and collaborative learning, often leveraging new media to enhance pedagogy. Recent publications analyze team dynamics in writing, ghost narratives in presentations, and the integration of coding for tutor training.
Jim has contributed to the field through conference presentations and publications, emphasizing the cultural and technological evolution of writing instruction. He actively engages with students through a small literary press, mentoring interns since 2009. His work also extends to reimagining writing centers as dynamic environments for peer-led learning and media experimentation.
