Jim Zimmerman is an Associate Professor at James Madison University's School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication since 2000. He holds a Ph.D. in English from The Ohio State University (1983), an M.A. from the same institution (1981), and a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan (1971). His work focuses on contemporary rhetorical practices, leadership development, and the intersection of professional identity with educational pedagogy.
Zimmerman’s research bridges composition studies, art criticism, and cultural analysis. Notable works include explorations of Terry Rodgers’ art, leadership narratives like Tony Dungy’s journey, and innovative approaches to affective writing pedagogy. His 2022 publication on healing pedagogies and 2021 work on feasible futures reflect a sustained focus on student empowerment through rhetorical frameworks.
